How much does an AI sales agent cost?

Most ecommerce AI agents price on a monthly plan plus usage, so the number you pay tracks how many conversations you run. Port8.ai uses a credit model: each plan includes a monthly credit allowance, with a 7-day free trial on every plan and overage billed per credit.

How the credit model works

Instead of charging per seat or per agent, Port8 bills on credits. Every plan comes with a monthly credit allowance and a set number of assistants. Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial.

What counts as 1 credit?

A credit is one billable operation, and exactly four things count as an operation:

1credit
Chat message answered
Every message the agent answers for a shopper.
1credit
Add-to-cart from chat
The agent puts a product in the shopper's cart.
1credit
Customer-service request sent
A support request the agent captures and sends on.
1credit
Delivery tracking lookup
The agent checks an order's live shipping status.
Worked example

A shopper asks 3 questions, adds a product to the cart from the chat, and checks where their delivery is. That conversation used 5 credits — and probably closed a sale at 1 AM. Shoppers who open the widget without interacting cost nothing.

The ecommerce plans

Starter1,00017 days
Growth2,50037 days
Scale5,00057 days

Beyond your monthly included credits, extra usage is $0.10 per credit, on all plans. Example: a Starter store using 1,200 credits in a month pays its plan price plus $20 of overage.

Shopify connector

Connecting a Shopify shop adds $19/month per shop. A brand with two Shopify stores pays the add-on twice. WooCommerce and WordPress connections have no per-store add-on.

We do not list the monthly dollar price of Starter, Growth, and Scale here, because plan pricing can change. For the current plan pricing, see the Port8 pricing page.

There are also creator plans for individual creators and personal brands, on the same credit logic: Micro at 100 credits, Macro at 250 credits, and Mega at 500 credits per month. The overage rate of $0.10 per credit and the 7-day free trial apply across the board.

What drives the cost

With usage-based pricing, the bill is not one fixed number. Four things move it:

  • Conversation volume. More shopper chats use more credits. A store with light traffic sits near the bottom of its plan allowance. A high-traffic store burns through credits faster and is more likely to hit overage.
  • Number of assistants or brands. Each plan tier includes a set number of assistants (1 on Starter, 3 on Growth, 5 on Scale). If you run multiple brands or storefronts, you need a tier that covers them.
  • Overage. Once you pass your monthly credit allowance, additional usage is billed at $0.10 per credit. If you are regularly in overage, moving up a plan usually gives you a larger included allowance for less than the per-credit rate.
  • Shopify connector. Every connected Shopify shop adds $19 per month. Multi-store Shopify brands should count this into the monthly number.

The practical takeaway: pick the plan whose credit allowance roughly matches your monthly conversation volume, and let overage cover the spikes.

Does it pay for itself?

We are not going to promise a specific ROI, because it depends on your traffic, your margins, and your catalog. Anyone quoting you a guaranteed return on an AI agent is guessing.

Here is the scoped, honest version of our own number: Port8 stores see a sourced +15-30% conversion lift on chat-engaged sessions. That is our product's measured effect on the shoppers who actually engage with the agent. It is not an industry-wide guarantee, and it is not a promise that your total store revenue moves by that amount. We keep the claim narrow on purpose.

To frame cost against value: a usage-based plan means you are paying in proportion to how many shoppers the agent is helping. If the agent is busy, you are running a lot of conversations, which is the situation where a conversion lift is worth the most. For more on why that lift exists in the first place, see why your store converts 2% when a real shop converts 20%.

The short answer

An AI sales agent for ecommerce is priced as a monthly plan plus usage. With Port8, that means a credit allowance per plan, $0.10 per credit over your allowance, and a 7-day free trial to test it on real shoppers first. Match the plan to your volume, and you only scale spend as the agent scales the work it does. See Port8 for ecommerce for what the agent actually does on your storefront.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an AI sales agent cost?

Most ecommerce AI agents price on a monthly plan plus usage, so the real number depends on how many conversations you run. Port8.ai uses a credit model with tiered plans and a 7-day free trial on every plan. Overage past your monthly credits is billed at $0.10 per credit. See /pricing for current plan pricing.

What is a credit?

A credit is one billable operation. Four things count as an operation: a chat message the agent answers, an add-to-cart performed from the chat, a customer-service request sent through the agent, and a delivery tracking lookup. A typical conversation uses a few credits. Your plan includes a monthly credit allowance, and anything beyond it is billed as overage at $0.10 per credit.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Every Port8 plan includes a 7-day free trial, so you can connect your catalog, set your brand voice, and watch the agent answer real shoppers before you pay.

What makes the cost go up or down?

Four things: conversation volume (more chats use more credits), the number of assistants or brands you run (each plan tier includes a set number of assistants), overage if you pass your monthly credit allowance, and the Shopify connector add-on if you connect Shopify shops. Lower volume and a single brand sit at the bottom of the range. Higher volume and multiple assistants sit at the top.

Are there any add-on costs?

One: the Shopify connector is $19 per month for every connected Shopify shop. A brand running two Shopify stores pays the add-on twice. WooCommerce and WordPress connections have no per-store add-on.

Will an AI sales agent pay for itself?

We do not promise a specific ROI, because it depends on your traffic, margins, and catalog. What we can say with a scoped, sourced claim is that Port8 stores see a +15-30% conversion lift on chat-engaged sessions. That is our product's measured effect on shoppers who engage, not an industry guarantee.
